　　Common coaxial connector selection:

　　1. BNC is a bayonet type, which is used for RF connection with frequency less than 4GHz. It is widely used in interconnection of instruments and computers.

　　2. TNC is a threaded connection, similar to BNC in size, working frequency up to 11GHz, and the thread is in vibration environment.

　　3. SMA is the most widely used one with impedance of 50 ohm and 75 ohm. The frequency of 50 ohm SMA is lower than 12.4ghz for flexible cable assembly and 18GHz for semi-rigid cable assembly. Another 3.5mm plug is similar to SMA, but thicker than SMA. It is compatible with SMA, and the frequency of cable assembly can reach 26.5ghz.

　　4. The volume of SMB is smaller than that of SMA. In order to quickly connect and insert self-locking structure, it is usually used for digital communication. It is replaced by L9, 50 ohm to 4GHz, 75 ohm to 2GHz.

　　5. SMC is a kind of threaded connection and other similar SMB, which has a wider frequency range and is usually used in military or high vibration environment. 5. The n-type connector is threaded connection and air is used as insulation material. It has low cost and high frequency up to 12GHz. It is commonly used in test equipment, and its impedance is 50 ohm and 75 ohm.

　　6. McX and MMCX connectors are very small and are generally used for dense connections.

　　7. BMA is used for blind plug connection of low power microwave system up to 18GHz.

　　Every connector has military standards and commercial standards. Military standards are generally copper parts, PTFE insulation, inner and outer gold plating, with the most reliable performance and higher cost. Commercial standard design uses cheap materials, such as brass casting, polypropylene insulation, silver coating, etc., with poor reliability.

　　The main body of the connector is mostly made of brass, beryllium copper and stainless steel. The central conductor is usually gold-plated to ensure low resistance and corrosion resistance. The military standard requires gold plating on SMA and SMB, and silver plating on n-type, TNC type and BNC, but most users prefer nickel plating because silver is easy to oxidize.
